The second installation of Secret Life of the Safari Park showed life at Knowsley at its most beautiful, powerful and tragic.  This episode follows the lives of Sinda the Amur Tiger, Twiggy the Baboon, Jemima the Nilgai and Iberian wolf, Maya.

Iberian wolf, Maya

Wolf pack dynamics and relationships develop over time and Maya’s sibling rivalry with her brother Zorro begins to boil over.  Our keepers had to keep a close eye on Maya and make welfare-based decisions that ensure her long-term health and well-being.

Jemima the Nilgai

Jemima was already a pretty experienced mother, but being pregnant with twins was new for her.  Lucky visitors will, from time to time, get to see live birthings alongside our keepers, and Jemima’s twins arrived just at the right time for some fortunate guests.  Cobalt and Cyan are both growing up and have settled into life well.

Twiggy

Knowsley Safari’s keepers are always busy making sure that all of the baboon troop are fit and healthy.  When Twiggy, one of the older and higher-status females was seen struggling with an injury on her back leg, swift treatment was needed to make sure she got back to health and didn’t lose her place in the troop hierarchy.

Sinda, the Amur Tiger

With around 500 individual Amur tigers living in the wild, breeding programmes are a vital element in ensuring that these beautiful animals do not go extinct.  In the second episode, we follow our keepers as they attempt to introduce Sinda to male tiger, Miron in the hope that they would mate.  Miron arrived at Knowsley Safari in 2020, he’d been mixed with Sinda successfully on several previous occasions. This introduction, like previous ones, was carefully managed by our expert carnivore team, taking into account each tiger’s behaviour and following the same rigorous procedures.
