We’re delighted to welcome a rare baby Southern White Rhino to Knowsley Safari.

Weighing in at a whopping 10 stone at only a week old, the calf is bonding really well with her mum Meru who is an experienced mother. They have spent lots of time together in the warmth and quiet of the rhino house before they join the rest of the crash on our safari drive over the coming days.

The new calf is the 22nd born here at the safari and is another success of the extensive European Association of Zoos and Aquaria’s (EAZA) Ex-situ breeding programme that Knowsley Safari contributes to. Our Animal Operations Manager, Chris Smart, is particularly proud,

“We’re thrilled to play our part in the fight to prevent their extinction and are so proud of the great work we’re doing to safeguard the future of this species. It’s amazing to welcome another little one.”

Hopefully you'll get your first glimpse of our newest arrival on your next visit to the safari too...
