Knowsley Safari’s team of expert keepers and vets are thrilled with the birth of the new Spring arrival, as they continue to care for the animals with the Safari remaining closed to visitors during the national lockdown.
The herd of Père David’s deer at the Safari has been part of conversation efforts to save and reintroduce the species into the wild.
Numbers of the deer, which were first discovered in China in 1865 by explorer Père Armand David, fell rapidly due to flooding and hunting.
The fawn’s new arrival marks 41 years of successful breeding of the Père David’s species at Knowsley Safari and is a nice reminder that life goes on during national lockdown.
