We have an exciting opportunity for an Animal Team Manager to join the Safari team in the Ungulates department. Following a restructure of our animal team aimed towards focussing on skills base and taxonomy, our animal team is now made up of a Carnivore team and an Ungulate team. Each team is led by an Animal Team Manager who reports in to the Head of the Living Collection.

Seasonal Positions

Guest Engagement Presenter

We are recruiting for a Guest Engagement Presenter who has a talent for informing and inspiring our guests to join our Learning and Discovery team for the season.

The department is responsible for delivering a creative guest engagement program: that is creating for our guests a positive, fun, memorable experience and importantly connecting them with the natural world. The presenter will have a range of responsibilities to support the delivery of this program including delivering tiger presentations at our new tiger exhibit, running discovery stations to engage guests on the animals we have here at Knowsley Safari, whilst promoting the conservation work we do and delivering guided tours on our baboon bus.

We are looking for people who can come in, every day, full of enthusiasm, to talk to people of all ages, and bring with them a bubbly, theatrical personality.

The successful candidate will need to be engaging, confident talking to large groups, have a positive attitude, have performance and engagement skills and be able to work as part of a team.

This post is subject to a successful DBS check.

As this role involves driving our minibuses, we can only accept applications from those aged 21 and over with a full driving licence.

Animal Keeper (Maternity Cover)

We are recruiting for an Animal Keeper on a temporary basis to cover for a period of maternity leave for approximately 10 months. Applicants must be hard-working, conscientious, able to work as part of a team and always looking to pursue high standards of welfare and husbandry, as well as visitor experience. Experience working with carnivores would be an advantage.

For individuals who are planning a career within the zoological community, Knowsley Safari’s Internships are a fantastic opportunity to learn from our experienced staff within an outstanding Safari Park environment.

At this time we only offer the following two work experience / internship programmes and are therefore unfortunately unable to accommodate any other requests that do not meet the criteria or commitment as outlined below. Please read the following information carefully, along with the pages linked that provide more information about the internships below before emailing or applying.

To be eligible to apply for our internships you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be 18 years old or above.
  • You must be able to commit to the full duration of the placement on the dates agreed.

For Animal Team Internships:

  • You must be undertaking an animal related course which requires work experience or placement; or
  • You intend to take a ‘sandwich year’ within your degree in order to gain experience within a zoological collection.
  • Working with animals can be routine and very physically demanding, you should have a reasonable level of fitness to carry out the placement and will be required to complete a medical questionnaire.

Please note that all placements are voluntary and unpaid. Accommodation is not provided. Places available are limited for each opportunity and are subject to application and assessment.
