Knowsley Hall Public Opening 2017

Price: £15.50

From Monday 2nd to Friday 6th October

The theme of the special exhibition of paintings from the Derby Collection will be By Land and Sea. It will feature a selection of pictures that are not usually on show to visitors. This display in intended to showcase some of the finest landscapes, still lifes and marine paintings in the collection. These works were created by Dutch, French and English painters working between the mid-seventeenth and early nineteenth centuries. Pictures by Dutch artists include a magnificent composition from Antonie de Lorme (Interior of the Church of Saint Laurens, Rotterdam); an unusual marine view by Abraham Storck (Arctic Whaling Scene); and a series of four outstanding paintings by Willem van de Velde the younger, showing the different stages of a Anglo-Dutch naval engagement: The Four Days Battle: 1st to 4th June 1666.

Also on display will be a pair of very fine flower pieces by the Franco-Flemish artist, Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer, who mainly lived in Paris, but worked and died in London during the 1690s. From the English school there is a fine landscape by George Morland, showing sportsmen and villagers outside a country inn, alongside a charming pair of views of river scenes with boatyards, both signed and dated 1808, and painted by the accomplished marine painter, John Dominic Serres.

Price includes a guided tour of the Hall with tea, coffee and biscuits
