About Cameroon Dwarf Sheep
The Cameroon dwarf sheep is a breed of domestic sheep that originated in Cameroon, West Africa, where they're used for meat and milk production. They have a fine hair coat instead of wool which helps them regulate their body in the hot, humid climate.
An easy way to spot males from females is to look for horns - only the males have horns which are distinctively wide at the base and curl backwards.
In Africa, they are under threat from Hyenas, Leopards, and stray dogs but conservation efforts are underway to protect them and their valuable genetic traits as populations have declined in recent decades.
At Knowsley Safari, we have Cameroon Dwarf Sheep on the Foot Safari on the Nature Trail that is also home to the Bagot Goat and Soay Sheep.
