Working together to secure their future

Africa's majestic lions face a critical threat. Listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN, their population has plummeted by 43% in just three generations. Today, estimates suggest only 23,000-39,000 lions remain, with a worrying decline still ongoing. West African lions are in an even more dire situation, classified as Critically Endangered with a mere 404 individuals left. Their historic range has shrunk to a mere 7.4% of its former size, with entire lion populations disappearing from five countries since 2002.

Conservation efforts are crucial to prevent lions from vanishing from the wild. Learn more about lion conservation efforts and how you can contribute to saving these magnificent creatures.

OUR CONSERVATION PARTNER

OUR AIM

Knowsley Safari is proud to partner with the Safina Lion Conservation Fund to support its vital work protecting lions in the wild. Through fundraising initiatives, we aim to raise money that will be directly directed towards the Lion Guardian program.

HOW WILL WE HELP?

Knowsley Safari will be donating towards the wages of a Lion Guardian, they empower local communities to protect the lions they live alongside.

Their approach involves recruiting young, traditional Maasai and other pastoralist warriors to learn the skills needed to effectively mitigate conflicts between people and wildlife, monitor lion populations, and help their own communities live with lions. The aim of the Lion Guardian project is to recruit young members of the Maasai tribe and other pastoralist warriors to learn the skills needed to monitor lion populations and effectively mitigate human-lion conflict, allowing communities and prides to live side-by-side.
