Poetry Corner - 16/05/2009
After a visit from local poet Kevin McCann last year for Knowsley Borough's "Around the Borough in 80 Reads" our sea lions Max, Biffo and Arthur inspired their own poem.

As the Sea-Lion
Hauls onto this platform-
Two shows daily ?
Clever dick similes
Swim through my mind :
He?s a
Slick grey piping bag
With
Eyes like sultanas,
Bewhiskered as
A Victorian toff
Who swings round like
Some loose gantry,
Blowing spitballs,
While I pose
With my book
He closes
The distance
Between us,
His hot breath
Scouring my throat,
Bares teeth
That could pare
Flesh from bone :
And in eyes,
Brown as kelp,
I float.
